I retired Feb.1 2001 and I love it. I`m still farming and enjoying go health. I`d have to write a book to recount the great times I had flying from ORD and the Great guys I flew with. The Delta happy family sure is history, unfortunately.
I retired jun1, 2004 It was a privilege flying out of ORD from 1977 to 1980. It seems like a lifetime ago we were all hanging out at ORD. The best to everybody. allen ice <ice_a@bellsouth.net> Fl -
Having been a resident of the "swamp" from 1956 through 1985, I had many a flight into MDW and ORD when Delta ruled the Missippi Valley. On one trip we even had to ride the "helikiller" between the two airports on one trip....Scary. Good site!!!! Richard "Dick" Warner <skydad@bellsouth.net> Covington LA -
For ex-ORD aviators (Over!) .. if you want a good laugh and more than a few memories from our fearless dealings with ORD ATC, dial up: www.skygod.com/quotes/ordatc.html It will take you back to yesteryear when we were young, virile, and making money for Delta!? Enjoy. BC Bob Campbell <capnbob687@comcast.net> - 34 years time in. 6 yrs. EWR AND 28 YRS. in ATL. "Been there, done that." No regrets....... John H. "Jack" Merrick <jmer@earthlink.net> Senoia Ga. - Hi guys, I have anew email. It is: macaulay934@adelphia.net My life is good. My son is furloughed from American but the outlook for his recall is good. I hope to go to the fly-in this year. Bill MacAulay Bill MacAulay <macaulay934@adelphia.net> Duxbury MA -
The best time of my life was flying out of ORD. ORD was the best base to work out of because the people were great. Dave David Kadetz <dkhacker@bellsouth.net> Port Orange fl -
Hey ORD aviators .. did you read the June, 04 RETIREMENT LIST?? 289 to retire with 269 of those hitting the pavement EARLY!?? How's that go about the rodents and the sinking ship?? At that rate Stevie Crawford will soon be numere uno on the "senioity list" Now .. there's a scary thought!! Watch your six (and your retirement check!!) BC Bob campbell <capnbob687@comcast.net> Hampton NH -
A real joy to flash back through names of ancient heroes! My DAL generation will never feel like we lived up to the standards the old ORD gang established so capably in the 80's. Hell, I never even let an FE log a landing.... I'm 52.5, but I just retired May 1. Goals achieved, laziness quotient and frustration factor rising, unwillingness to take a pay cut when I'm obviously already grossly underpaid for my patent talents, many of which I didn't show to you all so as to not make you suffer self-confidence problems! Mary Jane's a teacher (with benefits! hallelujah!), so I'm gonna live off of her for a while. Still see a lot of the ORD expatriates here in CVG: Steve Crawford (bragging that his system seniority number is now below his age), Jeff Davoll (head of CVG check airmen, if you can believe that!), Larry Baker, Mark Pearce, and many others. Never a better base; never a stronger show of true pilot-to-pilot, pilot-to-scheduler camaraderie; never more joy in the flying profession. I'll never forget my blessing of being part of it from 80-87. And if Waller doesn't quit putting me on midnight short call with every post, my nightmares will never end. (Hope the medical thing continues well for you, Jon). Warm regards to all, Doug Doug Wolff <d.m.wolff@att.net> Wilder KY -
ORD was the best. Thanks and hello to all the folks who made it an enjoyable experience..... John (Waller) is released from short call Jan. 1 2005! Sal Caruso <smec141@earthlink.net> lyme ct -

Greetings Ordniks! Miserable winter here in NH as I've been up to my flight kit in SNOW! But, I found the sun and fun in Florida so boring. Speaking of snow, who remembers the time Maury Kuenzi came to work, in uniform, at blizzarded in O'Hare on cross crounty SKIS? And management used to say us Yankees at ORD didn't take our jobs seriously!?? Check out and record my new E-mail address and stay healthy. BC bob campbell <(new) capnbob687@comcast.net> Hampton NH -

21 Jan 04 Thanks to retired Captain Dave Ralston for sending this notice about Jack Hagle's illness. Jack and Carol Hagle live at 90 Martin Point Court, Roswell, GA 30076, telephone 770-993-1233, email I just spoke to Jack on the phone at St. Joseph's and he said this is a life-threatening illness with no cure. His bone marrow is turning to dust, he can't produce red blood cells and the diagnosis is Myelodysplasia (MDS). Type that in your search engine window for more information, much is available. Jack will be 68 next month and too old, he said, for a bone marrow transplant. He also said he doesn't think he'll make it to his birthday. He is comfortable, but extremely weak and this is his 11th day in the hospital. His oldest son Terry is an ASA pilot. Please keep the family and the physicians in your prayers. Gawsh! The "Black Sheep Squadron" of ORD! Glad to be here. Willie Lump Lump (WB9JPP) Robinson warned me about this group. Retirement is He!!, but I've become an avid sea kayaker. Thank God for the memories of all the "politically incorrect" times we had in Ordville and the wonderful and sometimes bleary layovers we shared. Hope to see you guys, pilots, schedulars, rampers and rampettes etc. at the flyin. Lind swenson <Rlind2@aol.com> Fernandina Beach FL - Friday, August 22, 2003 at 15:10:24 (CDT)

Hello to all the ORDIANS. Love this web page. I just put in my early retirement request today and will be unempoyed on Sept 1 2003 eight months early. Thank God the commute is over. Just like Gary Ritter, I didn't seem to know anyone on the line anymore. Wonder if I am near the end of the ORD guys leaving Delta. Hope to see many of you on Sept 10. Loved the inverted 880 pic as the web site comes on!!? Except ...It reminds me of one of my first "training" flights on that mother down in Hotlanta! 1968 .. I was a dumb, green, FE trainee and we had a ORD up-grading pilot in the left seat. (name will be withheld) We launch on what is now 8R .. As briefed, right at VR, the IP pulls the #4 engine to idle!! Mr. "upgrade" kicks the right rudder full throw!? Holy s----! I'm thrown horizontal in my seat, the old 880 is flying sidewise (?) .. and all of us are headed straight for the open hangar door and "FLY DELTA JETS"!! Calmly (?), the IP says "I have it" ... Full power, a ton of LEFT rudder and we clear all the above by maybe 50 feet!! Only my laundry lady found out how scared I was!! Watch your six. To all ord pilots and flight ops office staff. It was an honor to work with you and for you. I wanted to say this while we still have a few of us on the right side of the grass. glenn Glenn F. Drover <drover7@aol.com> hilton head sc - Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 12:31:42 (CDT)
To all who are concerned, if any, about the cause of the broken leg and the eventual outcome of the same incident. I stumbled in the hangar at the morris airport and fell. one of my old students from the u of i who is now retired from ual as a 777 capt had just parked his decathlon and we were talking and i wasn't watching where i was stepping and stumbled and fell. Bob tried to get me up, but when he couldn't and I couldn't, He called the ambulance and I ended up recuperating from the installation of 2 titanium rods in my right tibia and hip bone. Today, I'm finally home and sure enjoy sleeping in my own bed. I expect a full recovery. Hope to see a lot of you next sept at the fly-in Bill Bill Robinson <wb9jpp@uti.com> Morris, IL. - Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at 16:31:06 (CDT)

Hi to all, It is great hearing from so many of you. We had a wonderful trip up to Canada, the fly-in, and COS for the Golden Wings. The only sad note was when we found out about Bob Runyan's untimely death. As you might recall Dee and I were at Bob's for the 9-11-01 fly-in. We happened to be in the Chi. area when we got word of Bob's passing so we took a little detour and went to the funeral, not a happy time. We then continued on to the fly-in, had a great time. While we were at COS ran into Shutack, as a matter of fact he thru a smashing party for us, McAbee's and Dunai's. Come on down to FL.......... Steve&Dee P.S.Do any of you computer whizzs know how I can transfer your e-mail address from this page to my address book. Just a quick note to wish all you ex-Ordniks a Merry Christmas! Who remembers all the great Delta Christmas parties we used to have in and around the greater Chicago area? I didn't realize how much my old profession had changed until a month ago when I was one of many sitting at the security point, in my SOCKS, as Boston's finest (?) checked my shoes for TNT/C-4! Next to me was a MD-88 F/O in his socks with a look on his face you wouldn't believe! I said: "how the hell can you guys take this crap?" He looks me straight in the eye and says: "Yeah, we are a proud profession" I guess that says it all since 9/11. Watch your six. Hello ORD Faithful: Received terrible news today regarding Bob Runyan. Bob had a fatal heart attack the night of 27 Aug. There will be a viewing on Friday night from 6pm-8pm and the funeral at the United Methodist Church of Bushnell on Saturday (31 Aug) at 10 am. Bob is survived by sons, Steve and Joe, Dau. Sandy and husband, Rick along with a brand-new baby grandaughter. Devastating news as things seemed to be going so well 20 years after his first heart attack. He just bought a WACO which he and Steve were going to fly to Tomahawk for the great ORD fly-in. Please refer to the email of Dave Roberts ROBERTSDL@mindspring.com Thanks guys. Hey ya'll, we're getting ready for the annual fly in and thought you'd like some update on the plans. Date is September 11, 2002, starting at 8:00 a.m., but come early or the night before if you wish. Plenty of room for tents or your camper, generators ok with some electric (30 amp service) available. Our terminal has great showers for both men and women, is air conditioned, has a pilot lounge, and weathermation. Fuel is available 24 hours a day. 100LL plus Jet A. The hotel list was provided on the earlier announcement and as mentioned there will be some availability at our homes if someone needs it. Skyways is now serving Rhinelander Airport which is about 20 minutes away. Airport has VOR-A, and effective August 16, GPS/RNAV 27 and 09 available. Remember the Harley-Davidson Colorama Ride for MDA takes place starting Friday the 13th and is always a good time, if you'll like to stay for that. Any questions, concerns, or comments, please email me at tubby@lussow.com or call me at 715-453-8295 or 715-612-5491. We would appreciate an email response to get a rough count of those who plan to attend. Looking forward to seeing you all on the 11th! Hi to all. Glad to get back in touch. we all know there are some really bad viruses out there. I got one and it has taken along time to get rid of it. I guess it passed thru my computer to many of you on my mailing list, sorry about that. Those of you that know me know that I do not have the computer knowlage to intentionally do something like that. Anyway I guess I'm back. By the way, Bob F. I took it out to the back yard and hosed it down, even sprayed it with bug spray, but thanks for the advice. Dee and I will be leaving FL in the coach heading to the Maritimes of Canada to see some old hockey buddies then on to Tomahawk for 9-11-02. Then on to COS for the Golden Wings. We hope to many of you at both of these occasions. Steve McGreevy <sdmcgreevy@worldnet.att.net> Punta Gorda FL - Tuesday, July 02, 2002 at 22:32:19 (CDT)

Al Durham died April 26, and was cremated in Georgia, leaving yet another void in the ranks of ORD aviators. I had a 3-day trip with Al many years ago. The first day, I bought a sack of oranges in FL with the intent of guarding them back to ORD for Xmas! We lay over in NYC and I store my oranges on a locker in LGA Ops. Unbeknownst to me, Al puts a sign on them saying: "These oranges compliments of Bob Campbell .. Enjoy .. Merry Christmas"! I show up the next morning to a empty sack and a pile of paper "thank you's" God bless you and keep you, Captain Al, as you save a place for us in "The West". Captain Robert Lomba Feb 17, 2002 DELTORD.COM Dear Capt. Lomba, and all other ORD based Delta pilots, As some of you may know, my father and long time Chicago-based 727 Captain, Dan Hammer, died on Saturday Feb 9, 2002 after a long struggle with colon cancer. Dad did not keep in touch with his friends at Delta, I believe, because he was embarrassed by his diminishing physical condition. He did speak fondly of his many years at Delta, particularly his good friends from the Chicago area. I was pleased to see several of his fellow Delta brethren at the wake and funeral, February 12th & 13th respectively. I am trying to put together a scrapbook of pictures and stories for my brother, sister and myself as a remembrance to our father. I am hoping that many of the pilots who flew with Dad could help me with this endeavor. If you had an interesting, humorous, or poignant experience with my dad, Captain Dan Hammer, please take the time to write it down and send it to me. Anything, no matter how insignificant, would be greatly appreciated. Please send it to: Michael S. Hammer 2340 Ridgecrest Dr. Lanesville, IN 47136 Or mslhammer@earthlink.net Dad had a tremendous influence on me. He really is my hero!! I fly the 757/767 for UPS so I’ll see you at altitude. Thanks to everyone in advance. I look forward to your replies. Bob Lomba boblomba@juno.com - Monday, February 18, 2002 at 14:05:18 (CST)
Thank You for your prayers everyone on the passing of my father Dan Hammer. I have asked Bob to post a letter at this Web-site with a request I am making of all the ORD Delta people. Hi to all the ORDites out there!!!!. I guess it,s about time I got off my REALLY fat ass and got some things done that were supposed to be done along time ago. To be specfic ,about Sep. 12.... More about that later. First, we have moved into our new home in FL. We are at Burnt Store Marina, 45 min NW of RSW. This is the same place we've had our Endeavour 43 sailboat for more than 20 yrs. CAVU is now tied to our dock behind our house. We got into motorcoaching in 96 We have a 40' Country Coach in the garage attached to the house. All that's missing is the airplane, comming soon?? We have room for guest coach or boat, so come and see us...! Now some bussiness. Dee and I were at Bob R. farm in our coach a few days befor the fly-in, about the 8th had agreat time untill the morning of 9-11-01!@#$%^&*(!!. We spent a few more days then resumed our trip ,.We passed thru Tomahawk WI. saw Lussow and Sorenson,( By the way John is aneighbor of ours in FL. Please come on down anyway. HA!HA!). Anyway, after discussions with all parties available at the time it was decided to have the next ALMOST ANNUAL fly-in at Tomahawk INTL a/p WI. I have been in touch with the t-hk syndicate and this still seems to be a plan. The exact date is still pending, but mid Sep is most likely more to come of course. So guys I've at least got the ball rolling. God I hate to type!!!. That's all for now. Have a Happy!. Steve&Dee McGreevy - Monday, December 31, 2001 at 13:54:34 (CST)

I am very sad to report that Bob Walker (ORD '77-86) was killed in a automobile accident on Thursday, 13APR. He is survived by his Wife Carol (Polcyn) Walker, who was a ORD F/A '76-86, and four sons. I met Bob when I was a 727 F/O and he was a NH S/O, and liked him instantly. He was a great guy, and will be sorely missed. "Hey Bob, touch the face of God for us all".
